Description Reid Spencer 2006-11-10 18:40:08 PST
There's no known fix for this bug.
Comment 1 Chris Lattner 2006-11-10 18:41:20 PST
I could have sworn he worked at one point.
Comment 2 Devang Patel 2006-11-10 18:46:34 PST
Our internal bug tracking software requires submitter to classify bug. Available options are : Security,
Performance, Serious Bug, Data loss, new feature.

Pick one!
Comment 3 Reid Spencer 2006-11-10 19:06:10 PST
Is there an option for "All of the above" ?
Comment 4 Reid Spencer 2006-11-10 19:40:21 PST
If there's no such option, Serious Bug seems to be the most fitting for the
levity of this PR.
Comment 5 Chris Lattner 2006-11-10 19:41:50 PST
If bug 100 couldn't be fixed, what do you think the chances of fixing this one are?

-Chris
Comment 6 Reid Spencer 2006-11-10 19:56:35 PST
I don't know, but not fixing it is not an option!
Comment 7 Bill Wendling 2006-11-11 03:48:18 PST
We really should categorize these correctly. Marking this as a tool. Also, because Chris is a Common Code
Generator, it's believed that the problem's in his internal code.
Comment 8 Reid Spencer 2006-11-11 09:03:24 PST
This definitely happens on ALL Platforms and All Operating Systems.
Comment 9 Evan Cheng 2006-11-12 04:17:29 PST
I know some people (actually 3) who might be able to fix him. He can be turned
into the proper open source compiler guru:

But this is Tonya's call since she has to live with him. I suspect this will be
a p4later, err, I mean WONTFIX.
Comment 10 Reid Spencer 2006-11-12 09:25:10 PST
Based on the foregoing, fixing this is looking to be hard. I suggest we start
with containment. While we may not be able to get to the root cause of the
problem quickly, perhaps we can diminish or eliminate the viral effects it has
on the project. So, here's some suggestions to get started:

1. Everyone stop talking to Chris immediately.
2. With Tanya's help, perhaps we can unplug Chris during off hours.
3. Everything Chris does needs to be code reviewed by everybody (except Chris).
4. Definitely no more Lattners on the project.

Any other impact reducing ideas?

:)

Ah, there's nothing buggy with Chris that a couple of beers couldn't fix!
Comment 12 Reid Spencer 2006-11-12 10:28:38 PST
So, you think the fix to this is free? As in free beer?
Comment 13 Chris Lattner 2006-11-12 11:44:37 PST
5. We could revert all of Chris' code?
Comment 14 Chris Lattner 2006-11-18 00:31:17 PST
I don't think this is fixable.
Comment 15 Reid Spencer 2006-11-18 01:00:59 PST
It may not be fixable, but WORKSFORME? I don't think so, mister.
Comment 16 Reid Spencer 2006-11-18 01:01:26 PST
This is much more appropriate.
Comment 17 Stuart Hastings 2010-08-12 19:36:03 PDT
Dale asked me to test Bugzilla, and picked this one (?). Ergo, this is a test comment.
Comment 18 Tanya Lattner 2010-08-12 19:44:42 PDT
Why are you testing bugzilla?
Comment 19 Stuart Hastings 2010-08-12 19:49:51 PDT
Dale said that Bugzilla wasn't working for him, and he asked me to add a comment to some bug, and when I insisted on a number, he chose this one.
Comment 20 Tanya Lattner 2010-08-12 21:03:12 PDT
Ok, well, let me know if its still a problem. I've had one other person say they couldnt respond to certain bugs, so just wanted to know if it was a trend or not.
